Use ShortLoom from Claude Code or Cursor

On this Use ShortLoom from Claude Code or Cursor page

Connect the MCP server to Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT so an agent can draft, render and publish videos for you.

What you get

Your coding agent (Claude Code, Cursor, or any agent that loads MCP servers and SKILL.md skills) can make a faceless video from a topic, show you the script and credit cost, render it once you approve, and post it to your connected channels.

The API and MCP server are on the Growth and Pro plans. Create a key in the dashboard under Settings → Developer and keep it out of chat - export it as SHORTLOOM_API_KEY.

1. Connect the MCP server

Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http shortloom https://shortloom.ai/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $SHORTLOOM_API_KEY"

Cursor - add to .cursor/mcp.json in your project (or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "shortloom": {
      "url": "https://shortloom.ai/api/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer fl_your_api_key" }
    }
  }
}

Other agents: point any MCP client at https://shortloom.ai/api/mcp with the same Authorization header. The full tool list is on the MCP server page.

2. Add the skill

A skill tells the agent how to use those tools well: draft first, show the cost, never approve without you, check before posting. Save the block below as:

  • Claude Code: .claude/skills/shortloom/SKILL.md (or ~/.claude/skills/shortloom/SKILL.md for every project)
  • Cursor: .cursor/skills/shortloom/SKILL.md
---
name: shortloom
description: Make and publish faceless short-form videos with ShortLoom (script, AI scenes, voiceover, captions). Use when asked to make a TikTok, YouTube Short or Reel from a topic, check or approve a ShortLoom draft, publish a finished video, or schedule a daily or weekly series.

# ShortLoom
Use the ShortLoom MCP tools (server "shortloom"). If they are missing, ask the user to connect it: shortloom.ai/docs/agents.
## Make a video
1. generate_video with the topic (plus style, duration, language if given). It returns a free draft - nothing is charged yet.
2. get_video_status: show the script and creditCost. Offer approve, edit (save_draft with baseRevision) or discard (reject_draft).
3. Only after the user says yes: approve_draft, which charges the quoted credits. Poll get_video_status until finalVideoUrl is set, then hand back the URL. A failed render refunds automatically.
## Publish
1. list_connected_platforms. Flag any account with needsReauth - it must be reconnected in the dashboard.
2. check_before_publish with the same jobId, platforms and caption. Explain every block and warn before going further.
3. Confirm with the user, then publish_video. TikTok posts are private until ShortLoom's TikTok audit passes; YouTube uploads may start private; Facebook Pages are coming soon.
## Series
create_series renders and charges every episode immediately - there is no draft step. Ask for the user's timezone, show the per-episode cost from estimate_cost, and keep autoPublish off unless asked. delete_series is permanent; suggest pause_series for a break.
## Rules
Never approve a draft the user has not seen. No view predictions or viral scores. Reply in the user's language.

ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to the public MCP server at https://shortloom.ai/api/mcp. The $1 Starter trial does not include the API or MCP. Growth and Pro do.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps and Connectors.
  2. Add https://shortloom.ai/api/mcp.
  3. Press Connect and sign in to ShortLoom. That is the whole connection. Do not create an API key, and do not paste one into the chat.

A new video from that connector is a free draft until you approve it, and approving is what charges credits.

3. Try it

Ask your agent: "Make a 30-second documentary-style ShortLoom video about the deep ocean, show me the script first." It should come back with a draft and its credit cost, and render only when you say so.

Test keys

A key starting fl_test_ runs the same flow with a simulated render and costs nothing. It cannot publish or create a series - those act on real channels and schedules.
