Why HeyGen wins faceless listicles

On 15 September 2026, the live Google results for "best faceless AI video generator" were listicles. HeyGen's own roundup sat at the front. Blotato's "10 best, tested" sat next to it. ShortLoom was on neither page.
That is not a mystery, and it is not a reason to copy their list.
Two jobs share one adjective
"Faceless" in 2026 means two different products:
- No camera, but a face on screen. An AI avatar reads the script. HeyGen is built for this. Their pricing page is avatar minutes, Avatar IV, photo avatars, lip-sync, translation. Creator starts at $29/mo. That is a talking-head tool that does not need a studio.
- No camera, and no presenter. Voiceover plus generated scenes plus captions. The viewer never sees a person. That is the job Revid, AutoShorts, StoryShort, Faceless.so and ShortLoom sell.
HeyGen's roundup is honest about job 1. It is not a ranking of job 2. Ranking HeyGen first for "faceless YouTube" is correct if the question is "who makes the best AI presenter." It is the wrong first result if the question is "who turns a topic into a cinematic short with nobody on camera."
We publish our own list at Best AI Faceless Video Generators. Until today it omitted HeyGen. That made the page look like a vendor brochure. HeyGen is now on it, last on our criterion (how much of a finished video the tool produces from a topic alone, with no footage and no presenter), with the limitation written on the row: avatar-first is the opposite of cinematic B-roll. Faceless.so is on it too — they appear in the same SERP and we had no excuse for leaving them off.
We have not signed up for Faceless.so. That row is tagged vendor-page, same as every other comparison claim we have not hands-on tested.
What the listicles never mention
None of the ranking pages in that SERP talk about paying for a render you then throw away.
Autopilot tools sell volume: pick a niche, connect TikTok, wake up to posts. That is a real job. It is also how you burn a month of credits on hooks you would have killed in the draft.

The Revid-alternative SERP is the same pattern
Search "Revid AI alternative" and the results are other vendors' comparison pages: Aicut, FlowShorts, Vuela, Viibeo. Each puts itself first. ShortLoom already has ShortLoom vs Revid. The gap is saying, in public, what those pages skip: credits that expire vs credits that roll over, stock/template visuals vs a scene per script beat, remixing someone else's viral clip vs generating from a topic.

What we are not doing
An SEO thread making the rounds tells agents to publish three articles a day, scrape YouTube transcripts, and buy a backlink network. ShortLoom will not do that. Commodity AI posts are what Google is burying; our own positioning rules already ban "content farm" copy. One article that splits a SERP everyone else is conflating is worth more than twenty that repeat "best AI video generator 2026."
Getting listed on HeyGen's and Blotato's roundups is a separate, human job: they have to choose to include us. This page cannot do that. It can only stop pretending the incumbent is not in the results.
